It features built-in effects (Bass Boost, Wahwah, Noise Removal, etc), supports VST plug-in effects, has a built-in amplitude envelope editor, a customizable spectrogram mode, a frequency analysis window, unlimited undo, etc. There is no limit to the number of tracks you can create, or the length of those tracks.
This is a superb audio editor which includes one feature missing from most similar editors – it has a well-written, comprehensive Helpfile with full tutorials suitable for beginners.
This is an easy audio editor to use (and made even easier with the Helpfile). However, it is limited because it uses the built-in sound card in the computer and does not support any specialist audio hardware. It also does not allow the editing of MIDI files, even though it can play them.
Audacity is a near-professional quality audio editor which has been written with beginners in mind – an unbeatable combination! The interface is simple and straight forward, the controls obvious and not buried so deep you can't find them.
Alas, Audacity is not suitable for Windows 95.
