Ta-ta, says Tata; Land Rover, Jaguar blow off Detroit auto show

The Range Rover Evoque could be the truck of the year. But don’t look for it at the Detroit auto show.

Now that they're owned by an Indian company, priorities have changed for Jaguar and Land Rover. For the first time, the two British brands are skipping next month's Detroit auto show because it conflicts with the Auto Expo show in New Delhi, India.
Tata Motors of India acquired Jaguar and Land Rover in 2008 from Ford Motor Co.
A Jaguar Land Rover spokesman points out that India is a fast-growing market. What's more, the recent Frankfurt and Los Angeles shows were used for the debuts of the Jaguar C-X16 and Land Rover DC100 concepts.
And what if Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque SUV wins the 2012 North American truck of the year award, for which it is a finalist? A spokesman said the brand's U.S. executives will be lurking at Detroit's Cobo Center, where the auto show takes place, just in case.
